Dreamsleep
darkness was racing on through the once tame woods
the mink stole in the closet started to move
the tv in the den was on and watching me
the old brass doorknob turned on you
I was chasing ice cream trucks
through the craters on the moon
white dress walking down the aisle
with the toilet paper stuck to my shoe
I don't want to hear you say it was just a dream
even nightmares are better than anything true
you know I dream in neon
But I see in black and white
Let me sleep a little longer please
The sun hurts my eyes
And I can't face the 8:05 bus
And the watered down coffee
and the watered down smiles
So let me dream a little longer tonight
my blood sizzles on the stones
there's a pony tied to the stair
all the best versions of myself
trapped in a time traveler jail
kneeling before a headstone
with dirt in between my nails
ivy sprouts from inside your eyes
and weaves into your jet black hair
let me dream a little longer please
the world isn't going anywhere
you know I dream in neon
But I see in black and white
Let me sleep a little longer please
The sun hurts my eyes
And im not ready to face the 8 o clock bus
And the watered down coffee
and the watered down smiles
So let me dream a little longer tonight
you leaned your head up towards the sky
caught the sunset on your tongue
Maybe if we believed hard enough
We could have stayed forever young
we were burning for an answer
we'd forget by the morning sun
the sky sagged with the weight of the stars
too often we forgot to look up
you leaned in to kiss my lips
when my alarm clock started to buzz
ghosts flicker in the street light beam
your aura flickers when you smile
new snow so bright it almost sings
just gets cold and grey after awhile
I don't want day jobs tangled up in daydreams
don't want to pay the price of life
I don't want to face a world where you're not mine
So let me dream a little longer tonight
