Schooled by Gordan Korman
Schooled is a book you might read if you are looking for a good laugh
...or two
...or three
...or maybe a laugh on every page.
It is set in todays age and is about Cap Anderson who lives at Garland Farm, the 'community' that was created during the time of the Vietnam War by hippies. He is homeschooled by the one person in his life, his grandmother Rain. Rain breaks her hip and has to go through 8 weeks of therapy. Meanwhile, Cap goes to live with a modern family. He has to go to public school. The tradition at the school is to nominate the biggest loser to be 8th grade president and play tricks on him. Cap comes to school his first day with long hair, DayGlo, and tyedye. He is nominated.
This is a moving story about how what expects to be a loser turns out to be the most popular kid in the entire C(L)AVERAGE Middle school.
