Dreamland by Sarah Dessen
Dreamland
The book Dreamland was written by Sarah Dessen. She has also written many other books. Some other books she has written is Someone Like You, Just Listen, etc… Three years after graduating she sold her first book. She now has sold seven different books. She attended college at UNC.
Dreamland is an ALA Best Book for Young Adults. The main characters of the story is a girl named Caitlin and a boy named Rogerson. Caitlin’s sister ran away and she now feels lost without her. She meets Rogerson at a car wash. Rogerson is a drug dealer whose father beats him. Caitlin and Rogerson like each other a lot.
Caitlin wakes up one day on her 16th birthday. She hears a scream and runs down the stairs. She trips on a present her sister Cass had left her. When she gets downstairs she sees that Cass has ran away somewhere with her boyfriend. Caitlin went and opened her present. It was a Dream Journal. Caitlin now feels very lost without Cass.
A few days later there was cheerleading tryouts. Her best friend got her to try out. She never dreamed of being a cheerleader. Caitlin felt free for the first time after Cass had left. She was a flyer on the cheer squad. She fell from the top of the pyramid one day and was very embarrassed.
Caitlin met Rogerson. He made her feel very loved for a while. Then he hit her. She could not get that mean face of his out of her head afterwards. Then he kept abusing her. It was a terrible time for Caitlin.
The name Dreamland is because of her journal Cass had given her. She writes everything in it. Her secrets, anything she couldn't tell anyone, anything she would not say out loud. She still feels connected to Cass with it. This book is very good and exciting. I liked this book a lot.
