Stairway to Nowhere
In a kaleidoscope of colors
All I can see is black and white
In a forest full of evergreen
The naked branches are in sight
In a library with thousands of books
I can only find blank sheets
In a world full of endless dreams
I can simply taste nightmares of defeat
Where people are racing
I cannot find the strength to walk
When people are overwhelmingly gregarious
My lips refuse to talk
Smiles seem to be forever in my face
Yet all I can envision are frowns
Jokes are far from being scarce
Somehow, laughter lets me down
Tired of ascending stairs
To a carefully manipulated hope
Tired of crashing into your weaknesses
Unable to find the words to cope
Longing for a voice, an answer
Reaching for an ear to listen
Someone to sit silently
And watch my face glisten
Trembling with too much fear
To reach out to a so called friend
Best buddies they say
Until you may have reached your end
This stairway that leads to nowhere
Is winding and everything but gratifying
It makes us believe in something not there
At first comforting and then everything but satisfying
Unwilling to stop climbing
Until eventually we realize
That we are ascending an endless vacuum
Where we cannot see eye to eye
Soon enough it becomes a pattern
The scariness and fright are over
Something even more terrifying comes along
What we wished we had covered
Life becomes a habit and not a journey
It is truly heart wrenching when we get the sense
That our only real true feelings in life
Are those of indifference
