who taught us
that fake smiles
were okay?
that empty compliments
are the answers,
and that apologies
should only act
as band-aids?
meaningless friendships
are better than none,
and assuring everyone
“ i’m fine ”
is the only way
to be this twisted
form of normal,
we’ve been
trained to believe
is right.

Society has become based on reputations and images that are fake. As long as everyone thinks that you have your life figured out and that you are happy, that somehow makes you "normal."
