We Have This Summer
Running around out in a field,
The sun setting around us.
Laughing, overjoyed at the notion that we have this summer.
We have this summer.
Driving out on some back dirt road,
Mud splashing up the sides of the truck.
Giggling and singing along with the radio, excited of what is to come next.
We have this summer.
Laying down on our backs,
The blanket underneath and each others skin as our only warmth.
Gazing into each others eyes, drinking up the love in the air.
We have this summer.
Passionately, we kiss one last time.
We have this summer.
I promise to return,
Although I know I won't.
I know the truth.
We have this summer.
That summer was incredible.
That summer was something I will cherish forever.
That summer will always be remembered,
A first love that bloomed underneath the setting sun,
Down a back road,
Remembering the love that was shared underneath the starry night.
We had that summer,
But summer is gone.
It is time to leave,
It is time to move on.
