Loud footsteps as I hurry up to the stage
My mind buzzes. The mike buzzes.
A blinding light singles me out.
I shrink, hiding behind the shelter of the podium
All eyes on me
I read about the sands of time
Of eagles flying, of the hourglass' harsh beckoning
Of rushing and rising
Of hoping and dying and
Suddenly
I am lost in the comfort of the author's work
These words are tried and true and I am
Just a messenger
Delivering revelation
Delivering inspiration
Delivering determination
And I know the applause is but grateful release
For the yearning that everyone held to be free
And once again, I'm a lowly servant
Of literature and words that were meant to be shared
The message must be shared
