Meeting My Best Friend
My face- it’s red. I know it is. I can feel it. Why are my palms so sweaty? Gross. Get a hold of yourself, Cynthia. Why are you so nervous? What is there to be afraid of? Calm down. Take deep breaths. My heart-what’s happening to my heart? I can’t breathe. No words. None at all. She’s outside. You can do this. Walk outside, and talk. Tell her things. Anything is fine- just something. Just talk. Okay, I’m here. And so is she. What do I say? Do I say something first, or wait for her to speak? If I’m the one to speak first, does it come across as too assertive? Does she want me to be an assertive person? I’m not a very assertive person. This isn’t going to work. Wait. She just looked up at me. “Yeah, I’m Cynthia. And so that means you’re Katherine, right?”

This is the first time I met my current partner, who is also my current best friend. I am hoping that the reader will be able to relate in the sense of meeting a new partner, making new friends, or both.
