August 2022 Fiction Contest: The Strange Key
As I finished going through my mothers stuff, one thing remained. It intrigued me, the weird skeleton key. I wondered if the key unlocked the mysterious door to the room I never saw. That night my curiosity got to me. I should've known something was odd. I grabbed the key off my nightstand, and hesitantly walked to the door. My hands shook, as I unlocked the door. When I did, I saw my mom, my dead mother. I ran to her and hugged her. We spent the night like any other. When I awoke the next morning, the key was gone.
