This is a piece I submitted for the One-Sentence Love Story contest! The story's a play on the phrase, "ships passing in the night," which refers to a transitory but meaningful connection. Using the metaphor, I wanted to portray a distinct facet of the queer experience. There's a huge aspect of the wlw (women love women) experience about what could have been, the potential for a romance or friendship to become something real. Oftentimes though, people are limited by societal or familial prejudices.
