The Lost One.
It was like a heartbeat. The soul of something that in most cases would not have one. Something that could not quit as long as it’s master still drew breath. They could feel that very soul every time they went over the bridge and looked down. It bobbed up and down like a cork. Swells caused it to rise and fall in a rhythm that almost mimed breathing. In and out instead of up and down.
Time had been unforgiving. It was banished to this place and nothing could change that. Few knew all that had come from this. Heart ache, blood, sweat, and tears all of it had gone to waste. Everything that had been suffered all that had happened in the last seven years was for nothing. It simply ended with no ceremony, no final goodbye or any such as that. It simply ended.
Though it was over one thing still remained. The light would shine on. It would shine if only for a time. Though it no longer served its master it continued to shine. It would shine until the sea itself threw things to the wind. The light went out. The heartbeat was gone. Nothing could be done. It was over. They saw the light no more. All was dark and silent. It simply ended.
All was lost when the sea reclaimed its own and across the ages, the soul heard its masters call. It reached out far and wide in search of the life it once knew until one fateful night it found its way home. Though miles and ages separated them life was brought back. It had begun once again. The heartbeat returned. They saw something that should never have returned. Something that even the sea could not tame. The light had returned.
