The Living and the Sleeping
Each of their faces, eyes closed, minds off. They had gone out at the turn of a switch, letting whatever task they were doing go. There had been a few fires soon after, but were all put out. They were coming soon, the only one awake knew it, she needed to leave. And soon. She would be asleep soon.
She ran, fast as she could, legs moving faster than she'd ever thought they could. The risked glance led her to run into something. Someone.
"Well, aren't you in a rush?" She was taken by the arms and led somewhere, fabric over her eyes.
"I was, until, you know, you hog tied me."
"I'm helping you."
"Yeah? How so?"
"Making sure you get out alive."
