The Maze Runner by James Dashner
“Everything will change.” With these three simple words, the inhabitants of the Glade realize their lives will never be the same. In The Maze Runner, by James Dashner, readers are transported to an action packed, yet terrifying world where every decision counts, and every step might be their last.
In the beginning, Thomas is sent up to the Glade, where he meets new faces and tries to learn who he is. Thomas is one of many boys who were brainwashed and sent up to figure out life and how to survive without a mom, dad, or a family, but in the Glade, Thomas made friends and had the position of a runner. Thomas wanted to be a runner since the second that he heard what they did. Runners are a certain group of the kids that run in the Maze, the Maze is what is keeping the kids in the Glade, the doors open in the morning and close at night. If you’re one of the unlucky ones you will get trapped and when you’re in there you don’t get out. If you survive, you will have to survive the grievers. Grievers are the predators and they are the worst nightmare for the Gladers.
The Gladers have to go through a hard life. They have to grow up without anyone. The symbolism in the story is fantastic, the maze itself is a symbol. It could show the problems of life, the people who block you in. Others could be Teresa, how everything can change in a second, she changes the story completely by herself.
This book was amazing, the characters were exciting, they brought the story to life. The little fights with Gally, it makes you want to turn the page and keep reading. This is one of the few books I have loved. James Dashner writes so ecstatic. You never want to put this book down. The Maze Runner is just an amazing book that you should read.
