Arthur Conan Doyle’s The Extraordinary Cases of Sherlock Holmes is a gripping story that never dulls its reader. From the very beginning till the very end, this book is jam-packed with excitement. The mysteries in this book are unlike anything you’ll see anywhere else. Where else does the murderer kill his victim with a poisonous snake only to be bitten by it himself? Where most murder mysteries are full of clichés, Sherlock Holmes is nothing if not original. In one story, Sherlock Holmes finds a rare gem…inside of a lost Christmas goose. This book has action on every page. Murders, fistfights, terror, these are only some of the things you can expect when you pick up The Extraordinary Cases of Sherlock Holmes. There is never a dull moment in these stories, only chilling mystery and adventure that what keep you on the edge of your seat. Not only is the plot of the story interesting, the characters are as well.

Sherlock Holmes is one of the most beloved detectives of all time. He is a very odd character who is full of quirks. For one thing, he is a genius. Using only his sharp eyes and quick wits, he is able to discover things no one else can. Holmes never seises to amaze those around him. Where most see nothing, Sherlock Holmes is able to find a clue that solves the case. Sherlock Holmes also has many talents. However, he is also prone to odd moments. Sometimes, he is excitable and witty while other times, he is deep in thought and may lock himself away for days. He also allows his home to descend into an awful state. Being a bachelor, he often does not care what his apartments look like and usually, his rooms are disheveled and unorganized. Sherlock Holmes has many odd character traits which make him who he is. The Extraordinary Cases of Sherlock Holmes is not only great because of its interesting story, but also because of its compelling writing.

The Extraordinary Cases of Sherlock Holmes is very well-written. Wonderful figurative language and descriptions put the reader in the story. The writing in this story is full of sensory details that help the reader to imagine every detail. The vocabulary in this novel is rich and descriptive. Where most writers would simply describe the victim as “the victim,” Arthur Conan Doyle writes, “‘He is a tall man, sunburned, very powerful, not more than thirty. He is poorly dressed, and yet does not and yet does not appear to be a laborer. A horn-handled clasp knife was lying in a pool of blood beside him. Whether it was the weapon which did the deed, or whether it belonged to the dead man, I do not know. There was no name on his clothing, and nothing in his pockets save an apple, some string, a shilling map of London, and a photograph.’ “Descriptions like this put a vivid scene in the reader’s mind and help them the walk side by side with Sherlock Holmes while he pieces together a mystery. They allow the reader to try and solve the murder before Sherlock Holmes and find clues as he does. The incredible writing in this novel allows the reader to get a feel of what is really going on in this book, not just what is told. Instead of the story feeling like a piece of fiction, it is almost like someone’s real accounts of true mysteries. The Extraordinary Cases of Sherlock Holmes’s detailed and interesting writing helps the reader to connect to the book and almost put themselves in it. Therefore, I feel that the writing in this novel is superior to anything found in other novels.

In conclusion, The Extraordinary Cases of Sherlock Holmes has an exciting plot, entertaining characters, and detailed writing. It is a great example of literature that has mystery, action, suspense, adventure, and more. It is an incredible example of a murder mystery and shows how amazing a classic could really be.
