The Color Purple by Alice Walker
The Color Purple is a story of self discovery. It details the trial and tribulations a women faces in the south. The main character Celie goes on a journey of self discovery. She is raped twice by her step-father, she marries a man who treats her more as a servant rather than his wife. Over the next few decades Celie undergoes a series of changes that make her question whether or not there is a god and if he does exist why is he punishing her. During this time she meets her husbands ex girl friend Shug Avery who helps Celie find out who she is and her place in the world. The Color Purple is the ideal book for someone trying to figure their place in the world ar their relationship with god.
