The Da Vinci Code
The Da Vinci Code
By Dan Brown
Set in present-day France, The Da Vinci Code is a story about a man named Robert Langdon. Langdon is a very intellectual man who finds deciphering difficult codes and anagrams, and working on very complicated math problems a hobby. While Robert is visiting France, he receives a strange message from Jacques Sauniere, whom he had never met before, but had heard great things about the man. The invitation requested Robert to meet the man at a local pub for drinks after a seminar about the arts of Leonardo Da Vinci that Robert would be giving. Langdon came to the conclusion that Mr. Sauniere wanted to discuss the seminar with him, seeing that they both shared similar interests. When Robert goes to the pub, he amazingly finds that no one is there waiting for him. He received a knock on his hotel door at late night, to find that the man had been murdered. Robert soon becomes an assistant in the homicide. Within time, French Police Captain Fache gets a warning that his job will be taken from him if he doesn't find justice quickly. He feeds them Robert Langdon as the murder suspect, in order to hopefully keep Fache's position. Soon, Langdon is an innocent fugitive on the run, in a foreign country that is not familiar to him. With his companion, Sophie Neveu, Robert is able to break codes that he wouldn't be able to break by himself.
“I need to understand what my grandfather was trying to tell me before he was killed.” Author Dan Brown weaves the theme of searching for truth throughout The Da Vinci Code. As Robert and struggle to uncover the mystery of Jacques death, and stay hidden from the French police, the duo encounters many struggles, such as betrayal, forbidden romance, where their trust lies, and many more. Brown enjoys writing with a style that shows great description of his vision of characters and setting. However, he can be blunt at times and leave you with many questions.
Dan Brown's The Da Vinci Code, has the same theme as Oliver Stone's JFK. Both stories have a conspiracy theory with a twist that will leave anyone in shock. Fans of mystery novels by Mary Higgins Clark will definitely enjoy The Da Vinci Code. This book is a fast paced novel that will keep you on the edge of your seat until the last page has been turned.
