The House On Mango Street Review
I like Esperanzas friendship with her friends Rachel and Lucky, and I also like that Esperanza is responsible. I like how she explains about her brothers Carlos and Kiki that they both live in different worlds. Esperanza is abandoning her time and again to go out with boys. I like that Esperanza spends her childhood in El Rancho de las Rosa, her father’s ranch in Aguascalientes, Mexico.
Esperanza has an evil step uncle that is mean to her. The story takes place in Chicago. Esperanza and her family moved to a Latino neighborhood. I like that Esperanza's name means hope. The main character is Esperanza since it is written in first person, but her family is constantly present throughout the book.
Esperanza wonders if her great grandmother made the best of her situation. I think people should read the House on Mango Street because It’s a great book with lots of fun details and lots of information. Esperanza talks about how she wants her own house in the future and she does not want to depend on a man for the rest of her life.
The setting in the House on Mango Street is based on a low income Latino neighborhood in the city of Chicago. It mainly takes place in the house on Mango Street. Esperanza’s most important awakening is realization of her writing ability which gives her the freedom to escape from mango street to have a place of her own.
