You can knock me down and break my spirit,
You can burn my hopes and shatter my dreams,
You can make my life like sad songs' lyrics,
You can crush my joy and bottle my screams.

You can murder the sources where I find me,
You can leave me here standing in the cold,
You can throw my wants out to the sea,
You can beat me down until I grow old.

You can make me go through all of this pain,
You can isolate me from my best friend,
You can keep up with your sick little game,
You can drag me down the road till the end,
You can do this until the time you flee,
You can do it all but you can't kill me.

The author's comments:
I wrote this piece originally for extra credit for my English teacher last year and he encouraged me to enter it so let's hope someone is actually reading this.
