Have you ever felt like a train was coming while you’re tied to the tracks?
Have you ever been offered a hand, but in return yanked yours back?
Have you ever bought an ice cream cone to have it roll to the ground?
Have you ever wanted to scream but were unable to make a sound?
Have you ever trusted enough to fall in faith that you’d be caught?
Then drop to floor as nobody was there as you had thought?
Have you ever watched a romance movie with a prince and a gown of blue?
And wondered with anxiety why that couldn’t happen to you?

You’re just one in a million faces riding the subway
Without a clue where you’re going or the time of day.
You’re in the crowd of a concert, listening to the same song
You’re all in the same boat, you just don’t realize you belong.
You’re floating in the ocean, bobbing the waves of life
Sailing through the ups and downs with the other ocean life
Though you may feel you’re stranded, lost without a home
Take a look around, you’re never alone.

Have you ever called out desperately when thing didn’t go as planned?
But then brushed off the help offered, because they just wouldn’t understand.
Have you ever heard your alarm, but weren’t ready to open your eyes?
Have you felt reluctant to live, but not ready to die?
Has someone’s lips brushing your face made you want to break down?
Have you wanted something you couldn’t have or been given the thumbs down?
Have you given someone everything to have your heart crushed?
Or hoped for a white Christmas, to see the muddy brown slush?
Have you ever wished on a star to realize it was a plane?
Have you needed to turn off your path but been in the wrong lane?

You’re just one in a million faces riding the subway
Without a clue where you’re going or the time of day.
You’re in the crowd of a concert, listening to the same song
You’re all in the same boat, you just don’t realize you belong.
You’re floating in the ocean, bobbing the waves of life
Sailing through the ups and downs with the other ocean life
Though you may feel you’re stranded, lost without a home
Take a look around, you’re never alone.

Have you ever been with someone who could make anywhere a magical place?
Who no matter what the situation, could put a smile on your face?
Have you ever watched a bird and longed to spread your wings and glide?
Have you ever been so happy you laughed until your cried?
Have you ever worked hard and reached the top of the mountain?
Have you ever picnicked in the park or thrown pennies in a fountain?
Have you ever held a child or soothed a baby’s cries?
Have you fought with a friend, then reached a compromise?
Have you ever watched a sunset to have your breath taken away?
Have you laid in bed at night, reminiscing a perfect day?
Have you ever laid flowers on a loved one’s gravestone?
Then looked at the friends around you to realize you’re never alone?

The author's comments:
No matter their age, family life, or history, all humans endure moments during which they feel as if no one can understand them. These lyrics take those moments to show that everyone experiences similar emotions over the course of a lifetime. The first two verses were about moments of despair, and the last verse was about times of joy. The last line was a sad moment in the happy verse because even the hardest times can bring joy due to the fact that we are never alone.
