Rot and Rain

Echoes in the cathedral
of my bare ribcage
the July sun bleaches my bones
as they moan and decay
the roaches and the ravens
are the only ones to stake a claim
oblivion is the only
heaven I crave

my soul has finally
found its darkness
but still my body lies
forgotten on this plain
with the whispering snow
and the wail of the sleet
and the moss and the dirt
And the ravens and the crows
And the March daffodils
And the July wildfires
that melt these chains away
for my soul there is blissful darkness
but for my body
there is only rot and rain

I snuck into the midnight church
for a lonesome death I prayed
and as I rose again from the altar
I snuffed out your thousand flames
my soul burned out like those candles
but my body is cursed to fade away
like an old man with no memory
and no family to speak his name

my soul has finally
found its darkness
but still my body lies
forgotten on this plain
with the whispering snow
and the wail of the sleet
and the moss and the dirt
And the ravens and the crows
And the March daffodils
And the July wildfires
that melt these chains away
for my soul there is blissful darkness
but for my body there is rot and rain

oblivion is the only
heaven I crave

oblivion was the only
heaven I craved
