Courtesy of a Goodbye
Guess hypocrites don't like to see
the outcomes of their fallacies.
You cut me then I watched you leave
before I got the chance to bleed.
You used me then you washed your hands,
so tell me is your conscience clean?
I guess men like them innocent.
Did my youth make it easy?
Keep running away from all your troubles,
no care for those who care for you.
And nobody knows when you're coming back,
maybe that's why no one waits for you.
I would've have waited for you,
been somewhere you could lay your head,
take off whatever's hurting you,
and lay it down upon my chest.
I've never seen such misery,
has it ever brought you to your knees.
You're using false stupidity
to cover up your cruelty.
I'll add you to the memories,
all those mistakes I won't admit.
Of all the lovers who've broken me,
no one's fooled me like you did.
I know one day you will remember
the nights we spent in late November.
And when you do, I hope you'll find
the courtesy of a goodbye.
For other girls you plan to spite,
please give them the kindness of a goodbye.

I originally wrote this as a poem after the boy I was in a relationship with suddenly left me without a goodbye or an explanation. I turned it into a song after channeling some of my sadness into a piano ballad to accompany it.
