President Roosevelt declared America as the great arsenal of Democracy

But to me it seemed more like hypocrisy.

America aided our allies with a war

And it ultimately turned into more.

The Germans torpedoed our supply ship

But that did not start our warships.

A catastrophe in the Pacific Ocean

Started the Americans in motion

To enter World War II with all their emotion.

Japan was greedy and wanted more of the territories of the Pacific

It would lead to something horrific.

Japan used the element of surprise

And America was none the wise.

On Sunday morning December 7, 1941, what seemed to be a peaceful start to the day

Japanese planes dropped from the clouds to fulfill their doomsday and let the bombs away.

Pearl Harbor, Hawaii laid quiet and still

As the Japanese went in for the kill.

Explosions and gunshots echoed in the air

As American sailors had not a prayer.

They scrambled and ran to retaliate

But it was ultimately too late.

Men were screaming and so many bleeding

As the Japanese’s plans were succeeding.

The USS Arizona with more than a thousand men still aboard

Split in two and sank into the harbor and left the base floored.

Nearly twenty-five hundred men lay dead

And so many Americans were filled with dread.

No matter how many acts that day of chivalry

It will always be known as the day of Infamy.
