Polluted
I used to hate the city.
(Baby girls and
Baby boys are built for
the countryside) but
at thirteen I noticed how
Pollution dulls our awareness
of hyper-
sensitivities and obsessions,
the lights and
notoriety and noise,
so we can focus
on saving lo mein money
and hoping for a second snow day,
plane-gazing from our apartment windows
Teenagers catch on, of course
but we love the city
