Silence is not Weakness
To be silent is not weak.
To hold your tongue is not timid.
To refrain from response is not to hide.
To step back is not meek.
To be optimistic is not idealistic.
To rise above does not mean I’m better.
To not engage does not mean I’m withdrawn.
To relax does not mean I don’t strive.
To be silent and hold your tongue is strong.
There’s words I could say, but think!
Words can hurt and to refrain prevents that.
To step back is not to admit you’re wrong.
Optimism I’ll choose over pessimism any day.
Realism over idealism as well.
Can’t there be optimistic realist in this world?
Seeing the world as it could be is just my way.
Forgive me if I seem perky, I’m just happy.
Life is wonderful, why be pessimistic?
Life is wonderful, why use hurtful words?
Forgive me if I don’t get the world, I’m just happy.
This poem was inspired by the idea that you always have to join the conversation, even it makes you uncomfortable. Well, you don't. Always remember: sometimes being silent is being strong and stand up for what you believe in, even if you stand alone.
