The Reflection
When I awoke
In the cool light of morning,
I sat up,
Stretched,
And looked around.
I went to the window,
And peered out,
Anxious to see what the day would bring.
I saw the rain
Falling gently,
Dripping down the glass
With a soft tapping noise,
Like fingers brushing on wood.
The day was new
But the day was dark.
When I looked out the window,
All I could see
Was my reflection,
Staring back at me.
I looked closely,
Observing this stranger,
Who gazed back so intensely.
Who was this figure in the window,
Who did that face belong to?
What would it do?
I had no answer to my questions,
Only time would tell.
But in the meantime,
I gazed
And gazed
And the stranger
Gazed back
Too.
