it sits apart from the rest

so blantantly different

and yet it is still a piano

a spec of white among the black

brimming with potential for beautiful loneliness

but it remains silent

shining keys never touched

it sits among its peers

and listens to their music

wondering why it must sit in silence

why it must remain untouched

and let midnight shadows settle in

why must it sit in suffocating darkness

while others bask in the concert hall lights

and are coated in sheet music
