Old story
It's funny
How you imagine
That everything suddenly went wrong
When really
It has been messed up for a while
Looking at old photos
Wishing you were happy again
Turn up the music a little
Maybe you'll drown it all out
It's never worked in the past
But there's a first time for everything
Listening to stories
That your dad tells
Over and over again
Tales of days past
Like when he dropped you as a baby
But caught you before you hit the ground
Or the day he brought you home
Turn up the music louder
Shuffle to an old song
One of those tunes
That is so tightly laced to your childhood
That it plays in the background
Of all your memories since you were six
Turn it up all the way
Make the world disappear
Find a home video of that one time
You called republicans `comedians` on accident
Laugh about it
For the millionth time
Then cry
Because even then
When you looked so happy
You were insecure
And scared out of your mjnd
