Dear Society
Dear Society,
I will not apologize for
My long messy dark hair
Baggy vintage sweaters
Or my paint covered hands.
I will not encompass the persona of old pictures
that make up memories that are not my own.
Old records, musty books, the smell of coffee
At 3 am make up who I am.
I am no sleep, the insecurities found in
The deep cuts on my arms
The lists of movies that I share just
So someone can feel the way I do
And the disappointment I feel when nobody does.
I will not apologize for the days that
I get lost in the music
And dance in my car
For this I say I’m sorry,
But only because you don’t.
