"And though she be but little, she is fierce."- Shakespeare

His hand, she holds like one would clutch a pole on a double decker bus
The look in his eyes, a puddle full of trust
She never cries- a soldier
He swears when he grows up, he will be bolder
Like his mother, but for now the tears fall
And she hides her own in the red steaks of an eyeball
When he grows up, he wants to be a Marine
Fearless on the water, fighting for his country
Origami boats and ships of sanded wood
When he grows up,
(Doctors said he never would)
Sail on the sea, red sky at night
All he has to do is find the strength to fight
Mom squeezes his fingers- she stronger than he
She says he can be whatever he wants to be
The doctors say he'll die, so oceans cry behind her eyes, too weak for surgery, there's nothing left to try
White coats of PhDs are nothing close to pure
A sterile place where children die- a tragedy for sure
His hero's in Afghanistan, picture by the bed
Daddy calls him every night before he rests his head
His hand relaxes in Mommy's own, sheltered by the sheets
And naps away, fortunate enough to dream of fleets
...
...
...
"Head to the cove!" He shouts to the men on his boat
Chilled by the water, he dons his camo coat
A quick glance at the sky and much to his delight
The sunset rises, a beautiful red light
