Falls and Flights
Seemingly true is it,
That flights require falls.
Yet,
I feel as though
I am always falling.
Dropping from the sky,
Uncontrollable even to myself,
Always wanting to stop,
To change directions,
Never feeling able to.
Others tell me to stop,
To stop falling, to learn to fly.
Flapping my fragile wings,
Trying so hard to change,
Attempting to obey them,
I can't.
Sinking closer,
Closer to the ground,
The ground where I will be
Vulnerable, hopeless, hurt.
Keep up, keep up,
They scream, sometimes silently.
Sometimes I scream it
At myself.
The noise,
The pressure,
The expectations,
I can't ignore.
But I do,
And I soar.
I learn, progress, move froward,
Into the sky,
The breathtaking stars,
And inviting darkness.
Perhaps,
I think,
We must experience the worst falls,
Begin with the most basic,
To be able to fly
So unimaginably high.
