Among the Snow
Growing up is a snow globe.
You are new and shimmering.
With fresh flakes and a glittering appearance,
you start out.
You are shaken often.
Your resilience is tested.
Your perfect white interior
jostled into submission.
At times it may be too much,
the snow swirling inside you,
the pressure building.
You may feel like you are going to crack.
But a gentle touch, a safe place atop the mantle
quiets the fears.
Quiets you.
The mantle becomes a home,
a safe return when you are shaken.
Through the years, your snow may be swirled,
your life turned upside down.
But then, when the excitement of your fresh life has worn off,
there you sit.
You are quiet, and content.
You may collect dust,
but you have earned it.
