As Constant as the Sky
The Sun,
she smiled
her warm angelic beam,
warily expressing her
affection.
With her probing rays she inquired.
Are you who you say you are?
The Earth,
on the verge of being
the trusted friend,
spoke with his living breath.
Yes, I am as constant as the sky.
Reassured, the Sun graced the Earth
with her nurturing rays,
cultivating his lively surface.
But then, with contempt,
he spun,
he turned,
bringing to the light
a changed, different side.
Even yes was a lie.
The Sun dipped her head in shame,
sank into an empty space,
taking away her healing light.
From her pain,
the stars shone sweet,
then changed, became
a dancing aurora.

This was originally an assignment for my ninth grade honors english class, but I really took a liking to it and tweaked some things to make it what it is now. It is one of my favorites that I have written.
