it happened when it rained
she learned how to properly tug
boys' hands when she was fourteen
I never even knew you were supposed to
eat watermelon with a fork and knife
with salt sprinkled on top like powdered sugar
mascara-heavy eyes so just maybe
she'll be caught in a hurricane of her own sadness
I knocked the bonsai plant over
while I was running up the stairs
she wasn't far behind
I didn't know coasters existed so that
dinner tables stained with water rings wouldn't
she is becoming a work of art
how do you cry without making any noise
being with you is like
suffocation
what if you are my best
