"Never let the odds keep you from doing what you know in your heart you were meant to do."

Dear World,

thank you for all the laughs

you threw at me

behind my back

The wicked names

were hollered loud,

yet in secret,

my dreams to drown

My purest words

you dared shut out,

my kindest acts

killed with your shouts,

your scoffs and scorns

to bury deep

Pleading concerns

to shame, defeat

Dear World,

much thanks

for soaking me

and setting fire

to the gasoline

You mocked me as

I burned to ash

Dear World, I must thank you

for that

Ignorant World, foolish and blind

and growing worse with length of time

Little did you comprehend

that your foal deeds sent me

to heaven

So as I smile at my hard past

Dear World, thank you for all

the laughs

The author's comments:

There's another line describing martyrdom,

but I took it out so that the poem could relate to more people.

If you think you'd appreciate that extra line,

I believe you can imagine what new meaning it would give to this poem.
