shaky fingers
close around the
faded neon filter of
a stale cigarette
i steal a greedy drag
and exhale in a cloud
of nicotine poison laced
smoke shrouding my body
like a blanket
concealing my blistered
scarred face
my deep eyes
reflect nothing
but love
my lips quiver at
your words
at your every ill
intention
soaking through my pores
like a cold sweat
