The Mirror
You need to face the mirror
Face the toxic love
You can't seem to run from
Look him straight in the eye
What does he show you
What does he tell you
He tells you your hips are too wide
Your belly isn't tight
Your thighs are tainted with traces of stretched skin
So stand there and take it
Hear what he has to say
The insults and all the mindless blame
You're worthless you're nothing but
A body to claim
Take it, take one last blow
Soon enough he'll leave you on the floor
Nothing but mangled pieces
The remnants of a body left lifeless by leeches
But he'll come back with smooth sweet words
"Turn around honey that wasn't supposed to hurt."
"You're a pretty face"
But don't let him deceive you
Cowards are those who ridicule others
Hoping to hide from the truth of themselves, that they must define
So hear what he tells you
But don't go back
Don't take the blow
The mirror sends
Because marks on thighs
Signify growth into
A powerful woman
A belly may be
His definition
But don't let it be yours
Because you are more than just
Fragmented parts
You are the sum of them
You are a whole
You are a woman
With a legacy to build
And enormous shoes to fill
You are more than a pretty face
Let the strength of your voice
Crash like waves
Eroding this essence
Of beauty from your skin
Let the flames of your soul
Burn the fear of inadequacy
From within
Leave them with nothing to admire
But your words like knives
A world within a mind
And the strength of bare hands
He, the mirror, told you
To be a crack in the pavement
But why settle
When you could be the whole damn ground?
