Through The Cracks
My past is dark, a road cracked and broken,
A reminder of harsh words life has roughly spoken.
Death has come often, taking friends away,
He breaks my soul without a word to say,
His actions bring much sorrow my way.
Betrayal is my neighbor, he's got my back,
Stabbing my heart and putting it on rack,
Rubbing salt on wounds too numerous to track,
Defiling and degradation are his best tact.
Injustice is only one short step behind,
Ready to replay loss, ready to remind,
Through sorrow it always forces me to bind,
With death and betrayal it is aligned,
Together they purge all they can find.
Through the cracks on such broken road,
I have divined such a beautiful code.
Through death I have learned to live,
I understand the harsh gifts he gives,
And for his actions I can forgive.
Through betrayal lessons are taught,
Wisdom gleaned from the thought,
through the remainder of what it brought,
The brilliance of what it wrought.
Through injustice mercy is known,
The reminder of pain is a measure I've grown,
The binding is a principle, I'm not alone,
It's alignment is deep, as deep as bone,
And together a better life they have shown.
