Each tree has a story it’s yearning to tell,
Wailing and whispering into the night when the wind begins to swell
It’s there for you to hear, if only you would listen
Beginning in spring when rain makes its tender, new leaves glisten
Pastel pinks and greens appear, joyously announcing fresh life
Slicing through the frostbitten binds of winter as sharp as a knife
Come summer and the tree offers desperately sought shade
Leaves gently caressing the tree house perched in its branches, long ago made
The tree keeps childhood treasures, far too many to sort
Tucked safely under the dusty fabric of memories deep within this fort
With the arrival of autumn, delicate tears the tree begins to shed
They drift to the ground and form a rusty bed
The reason is a mystery- why does the tree cry?
Fear? Nostalgia? The sadness of another season gone by?
Winter swoops in, the answer it brings
The tree is shaken by Snow’s merciless stings
It shivers with branches brittle and bare
All it has to offer now
Is a story to share.
