The Memories On Her Skin
Her age she loved just as she loved herself
the lines carved in her skin were paths she took
she'd stare into the mirror, smiling wide
and loving all the gaps inside her mouth
She struggled just to walk and dress herself
but as she fell, her dress caught in her arms
she laughed until the tears fell on the floor
so proud of the fragility of her
I'd look at her with sorrow when she coughed
I'd cry until she sent me out the door
I'd help her write her will and couldn't breathe
I'd pray for her to always stay alive
But proudly did she wear her leather skin
for when she saw herself, she saw much more
not one single grey hair did she regret
and every wrinkle made her who she was
And no one did she love more than herself
for on her were the memories of her life
