Call (Zane)
The boy was standing in a parking lot
Wondering what had happened
Who had taken his father, where he'd gone
When he'd be back
And as the thought flooded his brain
His phone rang
A trill of pings in the night sky
A sound not heard in three long years
He knew without looking
Who it was
His hand flew down to his pocket
Two hands clutching the plastic
To his face, covering
As it began to rain
The smiles of joy on his ecstatic visage
Melted
He fell to his knees
His father
He is dead.
