Song of the Selkie
The light winkled and dipped at the surface, slowing
as it reached her eyes.
Shifting green shadows dislocated her
from her destination –
the pale place where the light shone straight
and shadows
remained on the ground.
She wanted to be a part of the land,
to shed her soft sealskin and
walk on hidden legs.
But before, wherever
she ran, the ever-morphing voice
of the ocean pulled her back,
wetted her feet
and filled her head with its song.
