The Widowed Grandmother
Walks down the beach, tired, and our shoes were worn
We were old souls now, that was no excuse
What happened to all of the youthful times?
They’re gone, and they’ve turned into wisdom that’s just how life is
A placement holder for laughs, and pain that brings on tears
Let’s just thank God for keeping us strong for all these years
Our first born was delivered before our married years
And yet the smiles on our faces were worn
Proudly because we were able to go nights without tears.
We had no regrets set out for us, so excuse
The days that come to complete what it is
That we claim to be life. We’ve wasted no time
Wrinkles that spread across our face, it’s about that time
To realize the strength of the bond we created over the years.
Fifty years of marriage is
What we put in and pain that was rarely worn
As an excuse
Of pain to bear tears
We created love that never tears
No matter how many times
We may have attempted to put an excuse
Over the truth, ahead of us we had years
To demonstrate to our six seeds how pride was worn
And exactly what you make life is what it is
Now, we were what love is
And I am left widowed in pain and tears.
Smiles have faded away to the frown that is now worn.
What happened to the time?
We still have children that have years
To see, but you are my excuse
You are my excuse
As to why my life is
No longer exciting, what happened to the years?
Maybe I should cry happy tears.
We had some good ol’ times
And because of you, a smile is worn
Through the years we shared more smiles than tears
So, there isn’t an excuse as to why our love is
Coming to an end in times, we are simply worn.
