Walk into an old restaurant, lined with classical barstools
while wooden chairs and tables dot the tile floor.
Menu on a chalkboard above the cashier
Milkshakes being spun in metal mixers,
and grilled cheese being served with cokes
just like I pictured happening in the 1920s,
except no one is sliding around on skates.
This reminds me of the generation one older than ours,
and Wayne’s World and small towns where
the football games were accompanied by every person in the neighborhood
and the pizza shack was crowded after they claimed the victory.
This makes me wish I was born a while back,
so I could have enjoyed things like good music
and riding my bicycle everywhere
while they were still popular,
even if that would make me older today.
As I sit at the bar and drink my milkshake
and the remains from its tin beater,
I watch people come in and go out and
only imagine what it would be like
if women still wore dresses
and men enrolled in the army because
it was the right thing to do.
If only people still did the right thing to do.

I sometimes think I was born into the wrong generation, so I decided to write about it.
