hands clasped together tight
manicured nails united in a row
walking together for strength
we have to protect each other
because god won't
and the law can't
most people don't even try
another girl knocked down
bruised and crying
but she can get back up
because she can endure
another woman pushed to the ground
cut and bleeding
but she can get back up
because she can survive
people pretend not to see us
struggling to move forward
but we still remain
fingers laced in safety
we are a family
the broken
and the abused

my boyfriend's sister, my best friend, my aunt, my step mom, and my step sister were all sexually abused;i try to go by jason mraz's advice "awful happens all the time, try not to let it kill you"
