The Painting
I was in love with a painting
A painting of you
The painting was kind and handsome and true
For hours and hours I spun in my head
A mind I named yours
With words that you said
Things I thought I knew
Looping to a tune
Swirling in reds and blues
Feats I imagined you to do
I loved this painting dearly
as it ripped holes through my heart
every line that defined you
the light that grew behind you
wasn’t you
You speak your own words
Think your own thoughts
Live a life that the painting can’t capture
I loved a you,
That was not you
So to the painting I turn once again
