The Caterpillar
I, the humblest animal of the animal kingdom,
The bottom of the food chain
I do not have much power, so
I look at other animals with envy
They each have a special trait
Something that defines who they are
The gift given to them by
Mother Nature
The eagle with its powerful sharp talons
The deer with their speed and grace
The fish with their magical gills
The lion, the most magnificent of all,
The king of the wildlife
Standing proud like a victorious general
All these animals have something to be proud of
I ask myself
What do I have to offer?
I am but a caterpillar
I am not that special or strong
But, alas, my moment of glory and
My spotlight performance will come
When I pass on from the state of
Weakness
When I become a butterfly
A vision of beauty and elegance
I will be fulfilled
And be able to explore the world
Embarking on my journey
Flying high with pride
The dream of a new beginning
My future is bright
There is still hope
Hope that one day I will become
Just as special as the other animals
But for now, patience is my one quality I am proud of
Patience is what defines me and
Who I am
