You are the guy who'll decide where to go. …Dr. Seuss

Rays of light bring heat
up from the cool grey cement.
Mid-July, halfway through
the freedom we call summer.
Beaches are crowded.
pick a spot, make sure that you
stay there for awhile.
Screaming children,
blistered people,
burnt from the sun,
surround you on all sides.
The shade of your umbrella
unable to keep you cool.
Food, water, coolness,
it's all gone for the day.
Debating whether or now you should
make your way across
the red hot sand.
You make a dash for it,
stopping on your way to get an
all time favorite.
Double decker ice cream cone,
thinking to your self
how miserable he must be,
you tip him an extra buck.
Barely there to the cool wood
leading you up towards your hotel.
Half of your ice cream has disappeared.
You curse the heat,
only wanting the shelter
of your hotel room.
Escaped from the sun on your back,
AC overwhelms you.
You feel like you've forgotten what
cooler air felt like.
But you can't help but
love summer.
Being free,
no worries of school,
responsibilities,
nothing.
The days are dwindling away
but you blow the thought off.
Only thinking about today.
And days to come at the beach.
