All Because Of Me
The golden box lies there on the table with the satin cloth draped over it,
Silently tempting me to open it, but I know that I mustn’t.
Oh, how I desire to open the box, to see the wonders of what is concealed within,
And oh, how I long to know what heavenly treasure lies inside.
I stand in front of the box, the satin cloth lying on the floor;
Temptation, curiosity and desire overpower me,
I take hold of its golden key that sits within the lock and finally open the golden chest.
But when I see what is inside, it is neither treasure nor anything good.
Before the box was opened the world had no disease,
No despair or malice, no greed and old age,
No death or hatred, no violence, cruelty and war.
A myriad other pains escaped before the lid was closed.
The beauty of a world so pure destroyed,
For when the box was opened all the evils of the world were set free.
And now this perfect world is gone.
All because of me.
Although not all is lost, for one item is still left.
The one thing strong enough to give us strength,
Even in the hardest of times.
A gleaming strand of hope.
