"It doesn't matter how many breaths you took, but how many moments took your breath away"

It’s in the unspoken truths, the perennial despair,
the cloud of doubt and uncertainty’s wave that you’ll find me-
the sea-nymph with eyes a mystic brown, feeding on all that could’ve been.
I am the ocean of guilt in your eyes, my saltwater tears your raging current.
Did I ever tell you I see your eyes in mine? Mirrors never lie, you are my eyes.
And thus you’re a part of my soul, our eyes the window.
But in yours the ocean swells, your regret angering the water within,
and yet your love lets my ocean shine a crystal blue.
One day we’ll return to where sand castles didn’t need to be metaphoric, and the ocean was a mere place to frolic.
Until that day, the memories set me free, and because of you I rise
a mermaid, preening with the grace and strength you can only long to call your own.
Think, Poseidon.

The prelude to "Blissful Dysphoria." It was supposed to be one longer poem, but after deliberating with others i've come to the conclusion that each poem has better flow and power on its own.
