Back When
I find myself missing the good ol' days
Back when the biggest issue in our lives
Was that we didn't pass a math test
Back when boys still had lots of cooties
Back when boyfriends were simply just friends
Back when we didn't have to worry about
Our friends drinking alcohol or smoking crack
Back when we seemed all the same
Back when we would have all-you-could-eat contests
Instead of worrying about gaining a pound or two
Back when we would giggle when we heard the word "sex"
But now it's simply just another word for gender
Back when the only reason to cry
Was because we got a cut or scrap on our knee
Back when we still loved our parents with everything we had
Back when the word "cut" meant a boo-boo
Instead of a deep self-inflicted wound
Back when the word "suicide" wasn't even in our vocabulary
Back when we pictured God as a big old grandpa
Sitting on a throne of gold or silver
Back when we couldn't sleep on Christmas Eve
Because we just knew Santa would be coming through the door
Back when we thought kissing was gross
And wouldn't cry when a certain old love song came on
Back when we were so naïve
